While my sisters adorable cat Daisy was dressing up yesterday wearing very cool sunglasses our little Ruby was having a fitting for Dog Goggles. Ruby seems to have inherited a rare eye problem, Iris Sphincter Displasia, that prevents her eyes from adjusting to varying levels of light. Her iris' are large all the time and allow way too much light in and then when she goes into the shade or indoors it takes her a while to adjust to the lower level of light. While this disorder hasn't been diagnosed formally just yet it is a disorder that can effect Dalmatians, it isn't life threatening but can result in cataract blindness at a very early age and other nasty eye problems. As we live at the beach and are surrounded by water the glare, Ruby needs eye protection....................dog sunglasses, can you believe there are several varieties on the market. Ruby has only had hers on twice and she is tolerating them OK, she has realised she can see so much more when she isn't walking around with her beautiful eyes all squinted up and chasing toys has become so much easier when you can follow their flight path and landing spot.
