Renovators dream

May 2014

Last time I visited this house back in March renovations had begun.  Now she has some new roof, verandahs and a bit of fresh paint and is looking good.  From an ugly duckling to a graceful swan the transformation is happening.  I have also discovered that our shop landlord is also the owner of this house!  Our shop was once derelict with no floor.  This man who has a full time job has saved a lot of architectural history in this small country town, amazing effort.

The story continues

Way back in May last year when I used to travel to and from our shop to our country home I saw a beautiful dilapidated old home that appeared to be in the process of being renovated or removed.  I thought this was great, I've always imagined I would like to renovate an old home one day.  Well as my older readers know a couple of weeks later I was really saddened to find the house demolished, there were huge piles of building materials and no old house.  

Well just before Christmas I found the house in town and it is being renovated!  This has made me very happy.  So yesterday I drove past to see what progress has been made and as you can see in the last two photos the old verandah's are being reinstated.  This is a big project and I will keep you up to date on the renovation progress.  I can't wait to see the finished product.

Spring is nearly here.................

...............very wishful thinking on my behalf.  I really don't like winter at all and I am simply trying to make myself feel better.  Today was the first real wintery day, we had rain, hail and gusty cold wind interspersed with some really lovely sunshine in downtown Coolamon.  

This little lot of potted colour were looking so good at home I decided to take them over to our little shop for a visit.  I collected various old bits of pottery at thrift stores and then planted them up with a couple of punnets of flowering plants and in a few weeks this what has developed.  I'll be repeating this project again, it's turned out beautifully.

Yarn bombing at it's tiny best!

Cowabbie Street looking fantastic on this winters morning full of veteran and vintage vehicles.

 

I was over at our little shop in Coolamon yesterday working with my sister and we had a fabulous day meeting some great people and taking in the atmosphere with over 200 veteran and vintage vehicles stopping over for four hours on their long weekend rally.  

This lady was our best dressed customer for the day she really livened up our little Kindrawares shop.  It was a really well organised event by the local car club and I hope they return one day.

How wrong I was...............

.......this sight made me very sad on Friday morning on my way over to our shop.  It's almost all gone.  Demolished!

Grand Designs are happening I think

On my way to and from my home to our shop I spied this interesting old farmhouse that was slowly being dismantled and I feared may be going to be moved to a new site and I would miss out on seeing it's return to it's former glory.  This house has some really lovely features; bay windows, wide sheltered verandas, French doors out onto the verandas, weatherboards, tin roof, brick chimneys and a beautiful front door.  Anyway I'm pleased to say the removal of the brick foundations wasn't for the placement of steel beams ready to lift the house off it's foundations and onto a truck.  This week the old tin roof has been removed and their were men all over the house working away.  I'm going to keep taking photos of this project as it's something I've always dreamed of doing but quite probably will never do in my lifetime.  So I will live vicariously and enjoy watching from afar.  The property has a name on the gate and with some googling I found a photo of the house when it looked a lot more liveable.
